About the Assignment
Swift Analytics is looking for a capable and delivery-focused Databricks Data Engineer to extend an existing Azure Databricks platform for a financial services client. The work centres on building out the current solution while improving its governance and software development lifecycle, so that the platform is easier to change, test and trust.
This role is well suited to a mid-level engineer who is confident working independently and directly with the end client, from understanding requirements through to delivering and supporting changes.
Responsibilities
Extend and maintain data ingestion and transformation pipelines in Azure Databricks.
Design and develop dbt models, with tests and documentation.
Improve platform governance, including access control, lineage and data quality.
Strengthen the SDLC through source control, environments, automated testing and release processes.
Manage platform resources as infrastructure as code.
Participate in peer reviews, testing and quality assurance activities.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across the data platform, including job performance and cost.
Work directly with client stakeholders to understand requirements and provide feedback on delivery options.
Produce technical documentation and implementation notes.
About You
You are a motivated and technically capable Databricks Data Engineer who enjoys improving how a platform is built as much as what it delivers. You are comfortable working directly with clients and with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, take pride in producing clean, maintainable solutions, and like leaving a codebase in better shape than you found it. Just as importantly, you bring the client’s internal team along with you - sharing knowledge, explaining the why behind changes, and making sure they can own the platform long after the assignment ends.
Essential Skills
Proven experience delivering data engineering solutions on Azure Databricks.
Exposure to Lakeflow, pipeline orchestration and workflow management.
Hands-on experience with dbt.
Strong dimensional modelling skills.
Understanding of medallion architecture and how data is layered through a lakehouse.
Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or Databricks Asset Bundles.
Strong SQL and Python development skills.
Knowledge of CI/CD principles and source control.
Experience working directly with clients or business stakeholders.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Desirable Skills
Experience with Azure DevOps.
Experience developing datasets in Power BI.
Experience with Unity Catalog and data governance practices.
Experience evaluating new tools or platform features and rolling them out to teams.
Financial services or regulated environment experience.
Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate or Professional.
